Of the Efficient Cause of Christ's Passion
We have now to consider the efficient cause of Christ's Passion, concerning which there are six points of inquiry:
- Whether Christ was slain by others, or by Himself?
- From what motive did He deliver Himself up to the Passion?
- Whether the Father delivered Him up to suffer?
- Whether it was fitting that He should suffer at the hands of the Gentiles, or rather of the Jews?
- Whether His slayers knew who He was?
- Of the sin of them who slew Christ.
